Living Wage BC: Research
Shared on behalf of NWDLC
Last week we produced a new report looking into which workers in BC don’t earn a Living Wage.
Our research has found that 1 in 3 workers in BC don’t earn a Living Wage. That’s more than 740,000 people who are trapped in a gap between how much money they make and how much they need to earn to pay for rent and other essentials.
Our research also found that there’s a real gender and racial divide between who earns a Living Wage and who doesn’t:
- 57% of workers who don’t earn a Living Wage in Metro-Vancouver are women.
- 2/3rds of workers who don’t earn a Living Wage in Metro-Vancouver are people of colour.
- Half of all racialized women in Metro-Vancouver don’t earn a Living Wage.
I’d love it if you could help promote this research. We’ve produced a social media toolkit with some sample content and some graphics that you can share. And here is a link to the report: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1o-YZkHuZi8C7OD0kuBEj5by2zk9Q0wlu/view
Please do let me know if you have any questions or if you’d like to get more involved in this work,
